o   Field slave turned Mighty warrior – lethal and highly effective

·         Henry Christophe

o   General in the Revolutionary Army

o   Felt he should have been Dessalines successor after his assassination

·         Alexandre Pétion

o   Pétion had never known slavery

o   Became president of the South after the second civil war

o   Believed in redistribution of land to the peasants who worked it

o   Was of Pan-American belief in colonial deconstruction
