Book Two

The Rise of Toussaint Louverture 1793 - 1799

Toussaint Louverture is a Haitian hero—considered a founding father of the nation. He was of royal blood, the first-born son of a West African prince.

Toussaint was nearly 50 years old at the start of the slave rebellion of 1791 and initially allied with the Spaniards of neighboring Santo Domingo. He demonstrated strength in military leadership, strategy, logistical operations, and battle—going on to train a lethal fighting force and winning many battles against the French Colonial Army.

Toussaint switched his allegiance when France officially abolished slavery in 1794 and went on to defeat the Spanish Colonial Army on its behalf. He gradually established military and political control over the island and used his influence to assert dominance over his rivals.

Follow the adventures of Toussaint Louverture as he builds a coalition with historical figures, such as Henry Christophe, Jean-Jacques Dessalines, and others to consolidate power and rule a colony trapped in the dichotomy of history through the Triumphs and eventual Tragedies of their time.
